Everyday Adventure // Eleven Mile State Park – Round 2

I’ve written about this place before, because it’s one of our favorites.  It’s just a short drive from Colorado Springs, set on a beautiful reservoir, and surrounded by mountains.

This was our first spring visit, and we encountered some surprises (like, there are a lot of bugs around in the spring! also, there is lots of wind in the spring!) mostly because we decided last minute that we were camping & didn’t get our first choice of sites.  Memorial Day weekend is popular for camping (this one wasn’t a surprise)!

This was the weekend of sky-watching.  We saw a rainbow, some rain clouds – they didn’t dump on us, thankfully, and yes, they actually came by after the rainbow – and a stunning moonrise/star-filled sky.  Photos of that to come in another post!

One of my favorite things about camping is the food – brats, corn on the cob, s’mores! And even though I’m not usually an egg person, there’s nothing like a breakfast taco after sleeping in a tent.

Even though at heart I’m a city girl (there’s something about all that energy & potential), it’s really something special to get out of town for a while.  No cell phone, no internet, no to-do lists or chores.  This girl definitely needed a break!

That’s one of my favorite things about summer – for some reason, things seem a little less URGENT and things show up on your calendar like sand volleyball, camping weekends, and dinner with friends around bonfires.  Summer is a little reminder that URGENT does not equal IMPORTANT.
