Monthly Archives: May 2012

1. Rain is really pretty and means it will stay green longer – and I am a fan of that.

2. Purple trees, what more needs to be said?

3. Husband brought me cupcakes when he got off work late. Best ever.

4. Awesome new shoes from Zara – pink patent leather for the win.

5. Made husband stop the car for these beauties.  It’s becoming a strange habit.

6. Family recipe for chicken stir fry is a favorite around here.

7. A tangled mess – this is entropy in action, folks (they were neat once, I swear).

8. My beautiful momma with sister (left) and I in China, circa 2002 – so thankful for her!

Happy Mother’s Day to all you mommas out there – you get major props for rockin’ a job that definitely isn’t easy.

Wahoo!

Remember Friday’s post with the sneak peek of Matt Madeiro’s new book (which I am still amazed I got to be a part of?!)

Well, it’s definitely time for me to do a happy dance, because the book, along with Matt’s new website have finally launched.

Go read up on what Happiness Is is all about, and grab yourself a FREE copy!  I am in the company of some amazing illustrators (like this lady – love her!) and also some great words of wisdom from Matt about appreciating the little things that life is all about.

And if you need to play a really ridiculous pop song on this beautiful Thursday, I won’t judge you.  Actually, I’ll probably join you.

I’ve always really loved collage – the tactile experience of mixing textures and mediums.  The whole foundation of creativity is essentially combining things in new or unexpected ways, and in that sense, collage is a very literal exercise in creativity.  I fell in love with collages all over again when I came across these digital works by Matt Wisniewski – they are like being in a dream world (is that cheesy? it’s still true.)

I love stumbling across artists doing great work because it inspires me to think differently about what I’m doing (we all get into routines, even with our art, don’t we?) and to look at the world or my work with fresh eyes.

Just the kind of awesome I need on a Wednesday.

Be sure to go check out the rest of his work and pop over to Pinterest to see what else has been inspiring me lately.

While you’re at it (or before you go, since I know first hand that Pinterest can be a pit of distraction) – are there any artists or photographers out there inspiring you lately to push boundaries and be more creative?  Share in the comments!

You know, this whole sunny-80s to rainy-40s thing Colorado has got going is not really my cup of tea.  But I am thankful for the rain, because it means it’ll stay bright green (swoon) that much longer.  Enough weather talk, though – moving on:

We’re gonna move from rain to waterfalls and take a look at this beauty!  You’ll find Seven Falls just south of highway 24 (there are billboards) and yes, while it’s not ideal to pay to hike, this one’s worth it at least once, I think.  There’s a whole slew of trails branching out from the top of the stairs, so you can spend all day getting your money’s worth if you’d like!

The stairs are quite steep, and a little narrow, but they went by pretty quite and there are a few landings where you can take a break if you need to.  There is also an elevator – it doesn’t go to the top of the falls, but it will take you to a nice viewpoint.

When we got to the top, we chose a trail and hiked out of the canyon where the falls are to get a nice panorama of the Springs.  And now, since it’s Monday – here’s a vintage (aka pre-marriage) photo of the Mister and I when we hiked the falls a couple summers ago:

Did you have amazing weather this weekend too? What did you do to celebrate? (Because obviously, everyone celebrates sunny days, right?)

This is pretty much a perfect summary of what I think about all the time.  Flowering trees, sugar, and music (not always in that order).

1. You guessed it, took this photo on a run.  You just can’t pass these beauties up!

2. Spruced up/cleaned up the apartment – this is one of my favorite pretty corners.

3. Burnt dinner, so I had a coconut milk ice cream bar instead.  Naturally.

4. These guys make me so happy! Rockin’ some great music at Pulse.

5. Quality time with my favorite inanimate object, Donatello.

6. A family tradition: pancakes with homemade whipped cream. And bacon – don’t forget bacon!

7. Two words: happy hour.

8. Seriously, I cannot stand how perfect the last couple days have been – the best puffy clouds, the most perfect sun.
